www.proguitarshop.com, Well, it’s about time! The new hand wired Marshall 1974x 18 Watt combo is easily the most impressive amp constructed by this legendary company in recent memory. I can’t imagine why they waited so long. This is a preposterously cool amplifier. Marshall totally nailed it, beautifully reproducing all the things people loved about the original 1974 with a few practical modern updates, like standard mains power and speaker connections (rather than hardwired), an impedance selector switch, and easily accessible fuses. No sooner was our 1974x off the delivery truck than we were breaking open the box, getting those tubes warmed up and jonesing to plug in a Les Paul. We were immediately struck by how gorgeous this amp is to behold with the naked eye. It is the very definition of classy, with flawless tolex, vintage style grey grill cloth, and tasteful hardware appointments. Actually plugging in a guitar was a truly exhilarating experience. The clean tones, especially with our G&L Comanche, were glassy, rich and open, dare I say genuinely pretty. This little 18 Watt combo is probably the prettiest sounding Marshall amp of all time, and even has a great, tube-driven tremolo. The overdrive tones were actually kind of pretty as well, but in their own dirty, crunchy way. Tons of top-end harmonic richness and buttery smooth lead tones to be had, and quite capable of an aggressive crunch with hotter pickups or a good boost pedal. Marshall’s handwired series are …

Article by Paul Green

Before purchasing a new acoustic guitar, you should take the time to read some acoustic guitar reviews. This will give you an idea of what experiences people have had with a variety of acoustic guitars. There are consumer and expert reviews available. If you prefer a detailed review regarding what someone well-versed in acoustic guitars thinks about a particular brand, the expert reviews will prove helpful. Or, if you just want to know what the average person thinks about a guitar they have used, the consumer reviews will enlighten you.

Only consider an acoustic guitar review to be expert if it is written by someone with several years of guitar experience under their belt. Such experts will have information about several different guitars made by several different manufacturers. A good reviewer will be objective in pointing out the good and bad points associated with any acoustic guitar, despite any personal preference they may have. If they do have a bias, they will own up to it upfront. They do not have to have a Bachelor’s Degree in music to be helpful. They just need to be very familiar with acoustic guitars and prove it to you enough that you will feel comfortable taking their advice into consideration when shopping for you new guitar.

If you want acoustic guitar reviews, you should look for a site that has multiple reviews of each guitar by many different musicians. Many music stores also have websites with user reviews. Each guitarist plays in different types of venues, different kinds of bands and has a unique style of music. A guitarist from a band that plays at wedding receptions has much different instrument preferences from a guitarist who plays in a rock band. Look for reviews for people who play in the same area that you do, or someday hope to.

There are a couple of tricks you can use when searching for acoustic guitar reviews by experts or users. One thing you can do is to put quotes around particular phrases like: “acoustic guitar reviews.” When using Yahoo, this trick can reduce the number of hits from 17 million, when the search is performed without quotes, to a little over 6,000, when it is used with quotes.

A helpful hint when searching for individual acoustic guitar reviews, may work like this. If you are looking for reviews on Martin DX1 and put just martindx1, without quotes, in Yahoo search you will find approximately 38,000 hits. But, when you put quotes next to “martin dx1″ there will be only approximately 10,000.

You can also use another little trick the next time you perform a search. If you put the plus sign (+) right next to a word you want in every hit, you’ll be able to narrow your search even more. “Martin dx1 review” will bring you about 9 hits and that is due to the fact that you’re only seeing the sites that contain that exact phrase.

If you try something new by entering this- “martin dx1″ into your search bar, you’ll get upwards of 500 hits. To find something more specific, like the action on a particular guitar, you can add that to the query as long as you add a plus sign to it. Acoustic guitar reviews will be easier to find, which will make your decision easier if you take advantage of these two small search tips.Find ot more information on acoustic guitar reviews at Http://www.firstacousticguitar.com

Guitar chords are the basis of thousands of songs. It is more important to know a large number of chords for guitar rather than just learning where the notes are. The chords incorporate the notes into playing. An open chord is one where there is at least one open string played in combination with several non open strings.

When learning guitar chords the first thing you are going to want to know is how to read a guitar chord diagram. These are very basic and to the point. The diagram consists of the beginning section of the fret board, usually frets one through five. It would look exactly like if you were staring at the first five frets of a fret board. There are then dots indicated on the diagram to where the fingers are to be placed. This is also very easy to follow once you see the diagram. The only notation you are going to want to know is on some diagrams there is an X or an O.

An X indicates that the string is not to be played; an O indicates that it is an open string. Both of these notations are located on top of the diagram right above the string.

You will want to familiarize yourself with some of the more popular major and minor open chords. These are the basis of hundreds of songs and just knowing them will allow you to play many of them. Some well known major chords are C, A, E, G, D. Some well known minor chords are Dm, Em, Am, Cm.

When learning to play chords you will want to figure out the positioning of your fingers on the correct strings to make it not only comfortable to play them, but also so they come out clean when you strum the guitar. Learning chords can be difficult at first; especially transitioning from one to the other but with practice you will be able to accomplish it. To make sure they are coming out clean, practice putting your fingers on the chord and playing each note individually. If a string is muffled or buzzing practice positioning your fingers in the correct position so that they ring true.

If you have come this far on your journey you are making excellent progress. At this point the more you stick with it and learn the basics of the guitar the more you will become motivated to keep playing. If you are having a difficult time learning this, do not give up! Set a pace for yourself and know that this takes time.

You’ll learn guitar chords of all kinds, but ultimately there are two basic kinds of chords in music: major and minor. Every possible chord can be lumped into one of these two types. Major chords are built from major scales and have a ‘happy’ sound, while minor chords come from minor scales and tend have a ‘sad’ sound. While some songs use only one kind of chord, most songs and chord progressions mix major and minor chords. Let’s start with major chords.

Major Chords

Major chords are based on major scales and use the first, third, and fifth notes of the scale. We’ll start by focusing on five major chords: C, A, G, E, and D. Learning guitar chords like these will open up a whole world of music for you. Each chord diagram below shows you where each string should be fretted, and with what finger. We’ll start with open chords, which means that one or more open (as in not fretted) strings are included. Open strings are shown with a ’0′ in front of the first fret. Let’s take a look at G major, which contains the notes G, B, and D:

G Major

0 1 2 3 4 5

E|-|—|—|-4-|—|—|

B|-|—|—|-3-|—|—|

G|0|—|—|—|—|—|

D|0|—|—|—|—|—|

A|-|—|-1-|—|—|—|

E|-|—|—|-2-|—|—|

Notice that you need to get your middle finger all the way to the third fret of the bottom string, with the first finger on the second fret of the A string. Be sure to roll your wrist forward and curl your fingers so all the strings can ring clearly. Try picking just the A string: if you can’t hear that B note clearly, curl the middle finger a bit more so it avoids the A string. This will be a constant focus as you learn how to play beginner guitar chords: all the notes need to ring clearly for it to sound good. Strum downwards with your pick, then upwards: you want all the notes to sound as closely together as possible, so strum quickly.

You can also play G major with an open B string:

G Major

0 1 2 3 4 5

E|-|—|—|-3-|—|—|

B|0|—|—|—|—|—|

G|0|—|—|—|—|—|

D|0|—|—|—|—|—|

A|-|—|-1-|—|—|—|

E|-|—|—|-2-|—|—|

This form is more commonly used in folk and country, while the first form is more common in rock music. This has to do with the B, which is the major third: with a distorted tone the third can cause some ugly overtones when played on the higher strings. As you learn guitar chords, be sure to try playing them with a variety of tones and pay attention to what sounds best to you. Also practice getting your fingers to the right places as quickly as possible. Be patient: learning guitar chords takes time and practice. Focus on getting a clean sound from all the notes and you will improve quickly.

Let’s take a look at another very common chord, E major (E, G#, B):

E Major

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

B |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

G |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

D |—|—|-3-|—|—|—|

A |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

E |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

The guitar e chord is pretty easy to fret, and again you’ll notice that all the strings are strummed. Pay attention to the fingerings: learn the wrong fingerings now and you’ll have bad habits that will hold you back later on. Now let’s look at A major:

A Major

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

B |—|—|-3-|—|—|—|

G |—|—|-1-|—|—|—|

D |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

A |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

E |-x-|—|—|—|—|—|

Notice that ‘x’ on the low E string? That means that string isn’t supposed to be strummed. Even though E is part of the A major chord (A, C#, E), the low E makes the chord sound too muddy and hides the A root note. So, after you’ve twisted your left hand fingers around the chord, pay careful attention to only picking the top five strings. Also, make sure you can hear the high E string. This is actually one of the more difficult beginner guitar chords you’ll learn, simply because your fingers are in such a small area. Stick with it, though, and follow the suggested fingerings.

Once you can play A major, try switching between E major and A major. Take your time: a very slow, clean transition with all the notes sounding clearly will sound much better than a bunch of missed notes and muted strings. Once you can move back and forth, try a simple beginner guitar rhythm: Strum E twice, then A twice, and so on. Start very, very slowly, then try to pick up the speed a bit. You’ll quickly see why the suggested fingerings should be followed: notice that the first finger stays on the same string and just moves one fret up, while the other fingers sort of jump around the first finger.

Now let’s add another chord, and then we’ll try a tricker transition. Here’s C major (C, E, G):

C major

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

B |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

G |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

D |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

A |—|—|—|-3-|—|—|

E |-x-|—|—|—|—|—|

Notice that once again the low E string is not sounded. On this chord you can let the third finger touch the E string a bit; this can help mute any unwanted noise from the string. Be sure to keep a strong pressure on the A string, though.

Now, here’s another beginner guitar rhythm: try strumming G twice, then C twice, and so on. This is a trickier transition because all your fingers have to jump around pretty quickly. Take it slow: as you’re learning guitar chords the focus needs to be on a clean, ringing tone. Keep practicing this rhythm until you can move back and forth between G and C quickly and cleanly.

There’s one more open major chord to learn. Here’s D major (D, F#, A):

D Major

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

B |—|—|—|-3-|—|—|

G |—|—|-1-|—|—|—|

D |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

A |-x-|—|—|—|—|—|

E |-x-|—|—|—|—|—|

There are a couple of variations of this chord worth learning. You can add the open A string for a bit more depth, and you can also add an F# on the low E string:

D Major with low F#

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

B |—|—|—|-3-|—|—|

G |—|—|-1-|—|—|—|

D |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

A |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

E |—|—|-T-|—|—|—|

The ‘T’ means that you need to curl your thumb around the neck and fret the F#. It’s almost impossible on a lot of acoustics, but if you’re playing an electric, and especially if you want to play any sort of hard rock genre, it’s a valuable form to know. If you can’t get it now, don’t worry: it’s not usually taught when you’re learning how to play beginner guitar chords; think of it as an optional extra challenge.

Get Those Fingers Dancing

Now that you know a few major chords, try moving back and forth between them. You might notice that some of the chords sound better together than others: for example, G, C, and D sound great in a pattern together, as do E, A, and D, whereas G and E might sound a bit awkward played one after the other. Experiment and listen carefully; you now know enough cords to start creating your own songs, so practice, practice, practice! Here’s an easy beginner guitar rhythm to make practicing more interesting: start on any chord and strum it four times. Switch to another chord and strum four more times. Now switch to a third chord, strum it two times, move back to the second chord two times, and then go back to the original chord and strum it four times as well. Using G, C, and D, it would look like this: G, G, G, G, C, C, C, C, D, D, C, C, G, G, G, G. See? Even if you don’t know how to read guitar notes yet, you can still make music!

Minor Chords

The difference between major and minor chords lies in the second note of the chords (the third scale tone). In minor chords the third is a half-step lower than in major chords. So, for example, E major contains the notes E, G#, and B, while E minor contains E, G, and B. Here’s the fingering for E minor:

E minor

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

B |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

G |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

D |—|—|-3-|—|—|—|

A |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

E |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

Notice what a huge difference changing that one note makes to the sound of the chord! As you learn guitar chords, be sure to always compare the major and minor forms, paying attention to the sound of the chords and the fingerings. Here’s A minor:

A minor

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

B |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

G |—|—|-3-|—|—|—|

D |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

A |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

E |-x-|—|—|—|—|—|

Notice that your second and third fingers ‘jump’ up one string from E minor. Try strumming back and forth between those two chords: it’s an easier transition that sounds great. Now let’s look at D minor:

D minor

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

B |—|—|—|-3-|—|—|

G |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

D |-0-|—|—|—|—|—|

A |-x-|—|—|—|—|—|

E |-x-|—|—|—|—|—|

Notice that the fingering is quite a bit different from D major. That’s fine, because it’s pretty unlikely that you’ll move between those two chords in a song. As always when practicing how to play beginner guitar chords, focus on clean sound and avoiding strings that shouldn’t sound.

The Barre Chord

You’ve learned all the basic open chords, and practiced until you can move between them smoothly and even begin to learn easy guitar songs. Now it’s time to take on one of the more challenging beginner guitar chords: the barre chord.
This is a chord form that can be played on any fret of the guitar because it doesn’t use any open strings. Instead, your index finger forms a bar across the fretboard, playing three notes at once. To make this work you need to rotate your wrist way forward, get that finger as flat as possible, and really dig into the fretboard. Here’s what it looks like on the first fret, which gives you the F major chord:

F major barre

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

B |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

G |—|—|-2-|—|—|—|

D |—|—|—|-4-|—|—|

A |—|—|—|-3-|—|—|

E |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

In terms of learning guitar chords, this is the rite of passage: master the barre chord and you’ve officially learned how to play beginner guitar chords. It isn’t easy, but don’t give up! Pick each string one at a time and make sure you can hear each note ring clearly. If the notes on the first finger aren’t clear, make sure the finger is flat and pressed tigh against the strings. This is not a natural position, so don’t be discourage if it’s not perfect at first. This will strengthen your fingers, improve your coordination, and make it easier to learn guitar chords that are more advanced and require larger stretches.

Once you’ve mastered the major barre chord, it’s easy to play the minor chord form: just lift up your middle finger, like so:

F minor barre

0 1 2 3 4 5

E |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

B |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

G |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

D |—|—|—|-4-|—|—|

A |—|—|—|-3-|—|—|

E |—|-1-|—|—|—|—|

Now you can move either of these forms up the neck to play any chord you need; the name of the chord is simply the note your index finger is playing on the two E strings.

That’s it for this lesson: you’re a master of beginner guitar chords, have learned a beginner guitar rhythm, and know the barre chord, which opens up lots of possibilities. The next lesson will continue with more chords, more rhythms, and a song to liven things up. See you there!

Guitar Hero 5 (“GH5”) is a musical game available on many platforms including the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox and Sony Play station 3. The concept of GH5 is simplistic but absolute genius and involves grabbing a guitar controller, following the music and strumming the correct notes at the appropriate time,

****Are you ready to rock?****

In order to play GH5 a guitar controller is required and without one you’re going to struggle somewhat. The guitar needs assembly before first use as it comes in multiple parts. Setting up the guitar is a piece of cake and simply involves connecting the “string” section to the body of the guitar by pushing the two sections together until they “snap” in to place.

Personally, I think the guitar looks cool straight out of the box however for those of you that wish to personalise your guitar and make it more individual there are two sheets of stickers supplied. The designs include “rock n roll” items such as flames, skulls, dragons and other old skool tattoo pictures so there are loads to choose from. I think the stickers are quite naff although I appreciate it is “each to their own” and I appreciate there are people out there who will think different.

****Let’s Rock on****

GH5 is a game that is easy to play but extremely difficult to master. At one extreme there is the beginner mode which simply involves strumming at the right times, fingering is not necessary. On the other extreme expert mode is frantic and requires excellent eyesight (you need to see the notes coming), lightening reactions, excellent hand/eye co-ordination and a good sense of rhythm. The large difference between beginner and expert modes makes GH5 accessible to gamers of all ages, levels and abilities.

Career mode sees you choosing one of the set up characters or creating your own and then setting off on your musical career. With the choice of playing the lead guitar, bass guitar, drums or being the lead singer at a different number of venues there is plenty of opportunity for several hours of game play.

As you progress through the career mode additional features are unlocked including new venues, additional songs and accessories for your band members. These accessories include outfits, different styled instruments and the like allowing you to “pimp your rock star”. The unlocking of venues and songs is a great feature that serves to increase the longetivity and playability of the game, however I do question the customising of the computer characters. Personally, I have never been a fan of this and consider it no more than playing “electronic dollies” that adds nothing to the game although I know there are several people that do not share this view and will think that this feature improves the game somewhat.

In addition to the above there are various challenges along the way where you can gain badges and gold/platinum discs etc. Such challenges will include things like being in double point mode for a specific amount of time, hitting a minimum number of notes in a row or reaching a minimum score.

If you don’t have the inclination of career mode, or just fancy a quick jam then quick play would be a good option. In this mode you can select the song and the venue and get strumming. This mode is ideal for social occasions and playing with mates when you only have one guitar and are constantly changing players between the tracks.

****Graphics****

The graphics are brilliant and look very authentic and “rock n roll”. The band members are all 3D polygon rendered characters that look similar to the type of characters found in the Gorillaz music videos. The art work is exception and the attention to detail is perfect. Throughout the entire songs “your” band are on stage and you get to see all members rock out as the camera sweeps around and focuses in during the individual parts, including your solo. The stage lighting is fantastic and very realistic and the whole scene is like being in an animated music video, it is amazing.

What I find most surprising is how smooth the animation is. With so much going on I would have expected there to be times lags or blocky graphics, especially given the Wii has a weaker processor than other game consoles, but I have not come across any instances of this and there are no flaws as the tracks progress.

Personally, I think the exceptional graphics are wasted on this game. Guitar Hero 5 is all about the music, playability and ensuring you hit the right notes at the right times. If you are like me then you will find yourself so engrossed on what note is coming next you won’t have the opportunity to really appreciate the graphics. I find the experience of playing so captivating and focus on nothing but the next notes.

****Audio****

This game is all about the audio, therefore it was imperative that the producers got this aspect spot on otherwise the whole game would have been flawed. There are no problems with the audio in this game and it is absolutely fantastic.

The exact quality of the sound will obviously be dependent upon the system being used to play the game, after all playing the game on a top of the range television complete with a surround sound speaker set up will be far more superior than playing it on your parents 14 inch black and white portable that was bought a couple of decades ago.

I have an average surround sound system that was bought a couple of years ago and I find the quality brilliant. It is clear and there is no distortion or ‘white’ noise even when the volume is cranked right up.

There are over 85 tracks for players to strum along to. The play list is varied and contains some classics, such as Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, Sultans of Swing, Ring of Fire, Hungry Like the Wolf amongst many others, as well as some more ‘unusual’ tracks, such as Maiden Mother & Crone, Back Round, American Girl and Runnin’ Down a Dream. A full track listing is available on loads of different websites, and if you want full details then I would suggest inserting GH5 song list in Google and hitting search.

If you manage to get through all the tracks in beginner, easy medium and expert modes, or get bored and want something else to play then there is the opportunity to buy more tracks. Tracks are purchased by going to the music shop section and downloading the track directly so you need to have your Wii linked up to the internet to do this. The additional tracks aren’t free and with individual songs costing around 200 Wii points each (which is more than £1.40) they are not cheap either. There are some album packs and multi track packs available, which costs a bit less per track, but there are not that many available at present and there are many fillers.

****Multi player****

The multi player functions of GH5 are fantastic and second to none and there is a large variety of things you can do. You can play with mates locally or online. You can go head to head and have battles (whereby you have to score more points than your opponent even if that means a bit of ‘dirty play’ by sabotage), play as a team in order to progress through the game and earn as many points and awards as possible, or simply have a friendly jam by playing a few tracks together. The combinations are endless and the only way to find out just what can be done is to experiment.

Neither my mates nor I really use the online gaming community (there is nothing worse than being beaten by a 10 year old in Japan or America) so we stay away from the internet and tend to have head to head battles locally. These are great fun and provide hours of entertainment although they always get very competitive and usually end up in petty squabbles and arguments that go on for days afterwards, or until the next session.

The GH5 community is massive and there is a large following so if you are an online gaming fan there will be no problems finding an online tournament to compete in. I have entered one in the past and found it very easy to do although I must say the competition is fierce and there are some fantastic gamers out there who are way out of my league and scoring at least 3 times more than me.

****Using GH5 with earlier versions****

GH5 allows you to import tracks from older versions of Guitar Hero you may own. This is a fantastic feature as it not only stops the need for keep having to change discs (I find this very annoying and breaks the flow of the game play somewhat) but it also enables you to play the older tracks using the new features of the latest version.

The ability to import older tracks is great in principle, although it does have some issues in practice. Firstly, it is only possible to load tracks from Guitar Hero 4 World Tour. In order to do this you need to ensure you have kept the booklet containing the unique 16 digit number. So for those of you who invested in used copies (where the booklet has been lost or the number already logged) or those of you who are using copied or backed up versions of the game (Tch. Tch. Shame on you) you will not be able to use this feature.

Secondly, you have to pay a ‘nominal’ fee to import the tracks. These are tracks that you, the player, have already paid for once and now you have to pay again. Personally, I think this is wrong and the producers shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this..

Thirdly, you can only import some of the tracks from World Tour. Of the 86 tracks available only 35 can be imported. This is less than 50% which is absolutely ridiculous. This means if you want to play a track that cannot be imported then you will have to revert to your original copy of World Tour which kind of defeats the objective of this.

Importing the tracks is very easy and is done via the game store section of GH5. It is quite self explanatory from the game itself however if you get stuck there is a step by step guide on the Guitar Hero website.

When I saw the opportunity to import older tracks I jumped at the chance without looking in to it first. I naturally assumed it would simply mean I could play GH4 and GH5 from one disc and enjoy all the benefits GH5 provides. I was unaware only a selection of tracks could be imported and I was unaware I would have to stump up more cash. I would not recommend importing older tracks as I think there are far more negatives than positives.

****The Guitar Hero website****

As previously mentioned Guitar Hero has a massive following and has its own dedicated website for players. The details of this can be found in the instruction leaflets with the game.

It is possible to set up an account and link it to your particular version of GH5. Once again this is very easy to do although there are full step by step instructions on the GH website. Once you have signed up and linked your account to your game it is possible to see your gaming stats on your PC.

At first glance I thought this was fantastic and assumed it would show all the tracks I had played and all the relevant stats (including highest note run, percentage achieved, stars awarded and the score) enabling me to access these on my computer and show my mates just how well I had performed. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case as you can only view your last 5 tracks played, which is really no good at all. Your stats will show how well you performed in online tournaments, but if you are like me and don’t really participate in these this is also a useless feature.

****Price and availability****

GH5 can be bought from loads of different retailers including specialist game shops (GAME, HMV, Game Station etc.), general electrical shops (such as Currys), computer shops (such as PC World), general shops (such as Argos) and major supermarkets (such as Tesco and Asda). With so many places selling it you’d have thought getting a copy would be no problem, however I purchased my GH5 bundle between Christmas and New Year and stocks were low and if the bundle wasn’t in stock (as was the case with GAME, Argos and HMV) then it was only available for home delivery (as was the case with PC World and Currys Digital) and there was no way I could wait for 2 -3 days. I actually ended up sourcing a bundle from my local Tesco Superstore, which was not only very convenient (I didn’t have to get in to the centre of Norwich and battle with the bargain hunters) but it was also the cheapest at £64.97.

The price of GH5 varies significantly. Tesco sell the bundle for £64.97 in store (it is £65.00 from Tesco Direct excluding P&P) which was the cheapest retailer I found that had the bundle in stock. The online stores of GAME and HMV claimed to have the bundle for sale for around £60 although these items were out of stock and being on a pre Christmas special promotion I doubt they would be that cheap when they were next in stock. During my search I found the following prices;

i) Tesco – £64.97 (Tesco Direct £65.00)

ii) Argos – £79.99

iii) PC World and Currys Digital – £69.99

iv) Comet – £79.99

I should point out that I wanted to buy the bundle on the day and was not prepared to wait for delivery, therefore I didn’t bother checking out the places I would normally try first, such as The Hut.com or Amazon.

The price differential is quite substantial therefore I would definitely recommend shopping around if you want to buy this game.

****Cheats****

Cheats usually assist the player in progressing through computer games and are particularly useful in strategy or puzzle games if you get stuck, however this is not the case with GH5. Using cheats in GH5 only seem to unlock venues, tracks and accessories for your character. The cheats do not make you any better at the game, as this can only be achieved by plenty of practice.

So, if you want to pimp your character there are loads of cheats available and inserting “GH5 cheats” in Google will provide plenty of sites for you to do this.

****Conclusion****

Overall GH5 is a fantastic game and I think it is one of the best games I have ever played. The graphics are stunning, the audio is fantastic, it is as equally entertaining and enjoyable whether you are playing with a group of mates or on your own, there are loads of tracks (with the opportunity to get more as required) and there are many, many hours of game play.

Whilst I think the game is fantastic, I do think the producers are getting greedy and are starting to exploit gamers a bit too much. The ability to import tracks from previous versions is a great feature but to have to pay again for the privilege is not really fair especially when less than 50% of the tracks can actually be imported. In addition, the cost of additional tracks is absolutely disgraceful especially considering you can download an MP3 file for much less. After all, you are not actually buying sheet music.

The online statistics feature is also a big disappointment. I was expecting it to record statistics for all tracks I had played and been able to produce the statistics with the touch of a button, however this is not possible. Displaying statistics for the last 5 tracks played is very poor, especially given the technology available, and I think a lot more needs to be done. The site is also very, very slow and the load-up times are excessively high. Once again there really is no need for this and more needs to be done, and I for one will not be using the site until it considerably improves.

The acoustic guitar still holds a fascination for music lovers even after all these decades of our ears being bombarded by electric guitar music. Electric guitarists love playing with the sounds they get from different tone settings, effects, the use of the different pickups and feedback. The acoustic guitar has only the tone given to it by the wood it is made from and the skill and inspiration of the guitar player. So let us take a look at some acoustic guitar solos and the guitars and guitarists who made them.

If you do not know the name Erik Mongrain, you will find some examples of his guitar playing on video sites on the internet. I came across a very nice solo called Air Tap. He was given an acoustic guitar when he was fourteen, and learnt to play it by ear. While he learnt and experimented with the guitar he discovered the technique of sitting the guitar in his lap and tapping, the strings and body to produce music. If you go looking for him on the web you will find pdf files of his music and tutorials on his techniques.

Paco de Lucia introduced the world to a new brand of flamenco in the 1970′s and paved the way for a new generation of flamenco guitarists who were inspired by his passion for oriental scales and jazz influences. Entre Dos Aguas was an improvisation begun during a recording session because the LP Paco and his accompanying musicians were working on was short on material. The resulting rumba was a worldwide hit and established Paco as a force to be reckoned with well outside the boundaries of Spanish folk music. Paco sponsors his own line of flamencoguitars

Back in the 1990′s MTV decided to coax guitar hero Eric Clapton into playing some songs without the adornments provided by an electric guitar and amp. The resulting album won Grammy awards, gave Clapton’s career a shot in the arm and reinvented the song Layla as an acoustic showpiece. The solo on Layla is far removed from the original theme conceived by Duane Allman which made the song a rock anthem.

In the late 1960′s Mason Williams surprised himself by writing and performing an acoustic guitar solo which became a hit and remained popular for the decades since. The tune was called Classical Gas, and is striking for its simplicity and popular appeal. Classical Gas was born in an era when instrumentals such as The Lonely Surfer, A Walk In The Black Forest and Love Is Blue were standout hits for musicians who were otherwise unknown. But only Classical Gas retains the ability to make people sit up and listen.

So if you play the acoustic guitar a little and would like to learn how to play solos, you can use the world wide web to
learn more about soloing techniques for acoustic guitar. One easy way to start is the clawhammer technique used in folk songs, or you could learn to improvise your own licks using the minor pentatonic or “blues” scale. If you are stuck for an idea on how to begin improvising or making up your own tunes, start with a nursery rhyme or some other popular melody, and begin adding notes to it and changing things around to produce something original.

Ok, so you have finally decided to chase your dreams and learn how to play the guitar. You are about to step inside a guitar store with firm resolve to walk out with that instrument that will help you achieve that dream. However, there’s more to buying a guitar than just waltzing in, picking the first instrument you see on the shelf, paying for your purchase and walking out. Buying an instrument needs patience and judgment. Here are some of the most important points you need to remember when you buy a guitar.

This is not the end of the world. It’s not the last day on planet earth. Just because you promised yourself that you will leave the guitar store with an instrument does not mean you have to. Have patience and look around in other stores too before you make a final choice.

Do your research on guitars. If this is your first instrument, you are probably need to hone your knowledge to find something that suits your style.

Learn about the various parts of a guitar, the advantages and disadvantages of various types and styles of guitars and if possible, take someone along with you who knows about these things.

Consider going online. Thanks to the internet, you don’t have to depend on your local brick-and-mortar guitar stores and their sometimes limited inventories anymore. Online stores usually have wider selections and a better range of prices, so make sure you look around in a few online guitar stores rather than just brick-and-mortar ones.

Don’t let salespeople hurry you or push you. They are usually there just to ensure you buy the most expensive equipment, so their “advise” is just likely to be thinly veiled sales talk. They are also likely to hurry you to make your purchase because you are more likely to be more pliant to their suggestions that way. Of course, with an online store you don’t have to worry about this problem.

When you walk into a guitar store to buy a guitar for the first time in your life, you are taking that initial step towards realization of a long-forgotten dream. Don’t let your first guitar be the result of a snap decision. Take your time, do your homework and only then should you drop your money, confident that you are walking away with something you are going to treasure for the rest of your life.
